About the lesson

I have developed many methods that are very helpful to develop reading, writing, and number skills. I use combined learning modalities, relying more on the auditory, kinesthetic, or visual components, according to the student's abilities. I have the students listen, speaking, reading, and even manipulating objects in order to develop comprehensive abilities. I always explain not only what has to be learned, but why and how.
The focus of my teaching is metacognitive. Therefore, I explain not only what has to be learned, but why, and how it relates to other learning. Specifically with dyslexic students, I train their short term and working memory, as well as their moment to moment attention, and help them become aware of typical dyslexic mistakes.
I use components of the Orton Gillingham methods. With some students, I use Blast off to Reading.
Since Dyslexia always involves a reversal component, I teach the students to become aware of any reversal of letters or syllables, and to beware of other problems related to their dyslexia.

About Guillermo

Hello, when I was 13, I had great difficulty with numbers and reading. I transferred to a new school, where I met a teacher, Don Fausto, who realized what my problems were. He was my math teacher in Madrid. I am originally from Spain.
Don Fausto observed me trying to solve math problems and quickly figured out that my E's and 3's, ans my F's and 7's were always switched around. He realized that I not only had problems with numbers, but had become afraid of them. He worked with me after school, and I loved math within a few months. In fact, I graduated with a BS in applied math from The Ohio State University.
Years later, I went to graduate school in psychology and became a behavior analyst. Since then, I have spent the last 30 years helping children with all sorts of difficulties.
I would love to help your child. The best way to know what I can do for him would be to set a meeting and for us to get to know each other. I would need him to have his homework available, and observe him solving it. There is no charge for the first meeting, and since it is an evaluation, it may take up to a couple of hours.
