About Hal
Hal is an experienced stage director and education facilitator. He has spent the last two years working for the RSC where he has worked as an assistant director to Erica Whyman and Phillip Breen and directed work in his own right.
After gaining a degree from the University of Sussex, Hal trained at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and the National Theatre Studio.
He has directed work around the UK for companies including Stephen Joseph Theatre Scarborough, York Theatre Royal, Eastern Angles, Polka Theatre and The Barn Theatre Cirencester. His assistant directing credits include: Donmar Warehouse, Bristol Old Vic Theatre Royal and Bolton Octagon.
Hal is the Associate Director of RABBLE THEATRE in Reading where he has directed multiple critically acclaimed productions.
He has ten years experience leading projects and directing young people at Shakespeare's Globe Education. In 2009-2010 he was the Director in Residence at Eton College.
Hal has a passion for acting training and has led projects and directed shows for a number of leading drama schools across the UK. Credits include: Oxford School of Drama, RADA, LAMDA, Drama Studio London, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, ALRA, Year Out Drama Company, Identity School of Acting, Associated Studios and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
Hal has created a great deal of puppetry-based work. He enjoys working collaboratively with puppet designers and puppeteers. He was the Artistic Director of critically-acclaimed touring puppetry company, Tucked In, for 14 years. Tucked In were supported by Lyric Hammersmith, Greenwich Theatre and Rich Mix. He has also led puppetry direction on West End musicals, stage plays and education workshops.
Finally, he has 15 years of experience working as an acting tutor. His previous students have gone on to train at the following drama schools:
