About the lesson
While I hold other jobs, I am writer, freelance editor/proofreader, and tutor. I tutor a wide range of ages: children, teenagers, college/graduate students and adults. I try to help the student learn how to learn the material, through using mnemonics, looking for patterns, associating new material with ideas already learned, and providing background information on the topic. I also like to employ the Socratic method to make the student realize how much he or she already knows and challenge the student to make the next conceptual step in learning. I try to get to know a student's particular learning style--visual, auditory, verbal--and accommodate it.
In high school, I received straight A's in Civics, World Geography, World History, and AP US History, and received a 5 on the AP US History Exam.

About Robert
I first tutored over 25 years ago, helping my friend pass the math exam required to graduate from Maryland public high schools. A few years ago, he told me (with some exaggeration, I assume!) that the day he learned that he passed the exam was the happiest day of his life. I began tutoring regularly in college, and have since tutored close to twenty students in English (including ESL), reading, phonics, spelling, Hebrew, American and world history, geography, and arithmetic.
I've only tutored a few students in history and geography. But I enjoyed sharing with them my interest in the actions and consequences that shape the continuous narrative of history behind the names and dates, and my fascination with where things are in relation to one another. I would also enjoy sharing my interest in the operation of government and the democratic process in the United States.

Robert was consistently reliable, helpful, and creative in his teaching methods. I found him to be an excellent tutor who worked towards creating a lesson plan geared towards my strengths and spent extra energy on figuring out what connected material would be most interesting in order to maximize my learning.
Robert has been my English tutor for five years. First of all, he is an excellent tutor for conversation. When I came to the US, I was not good at speaking English, and was afraid of having conversation with Americans, who spoke so fast without taking care of my ability of English. But I find that Robert is so kind and approachable. Robert speaks English so clear, and he listens to me carefully and corrects my English moderately. His gentle character makes him a tutor like a friend. Also, his thoughtful expressions and profound knowledge make a conversation enjoyable. Speaking English with him is beneficial and fun.
Second, I believe that his strongest point is editing English. I have had some professional editors before I found Robert, but among them he is simply the best. Robert can provide a high quality of editing service, not only because he has a professional reading skill supported by his education and experience, but also because his broad knowledge and academic mind enable him to follow the argument even on the doctoral level. So far, Robert has edited my papers about politics, history, religion, and philosophy. He usually understands the argument first, and then points out the grammatical errors. I’m satisfied with his work. For he is not a mere editor who improves the quality of my English; moreover, his comments and suggestions educate me how to write English and how to think like English speaking people.
I have already introduced Robert to some of my friends. All of them are satisfied with his ability as a tutor and impressed with his gentleness. I recommend him as an English tutor both to the beginners and to the one who needs a tutor for advanced level.View more recommendations
